Have you ever thought vegetables could be fun? Guess what?…they can!
Here’s a fun recipe to make for Christmas using red, green, and yellow veggies. Give this a whirl and make it for an appetizer or snack. Your parents will be so impressed. You may even score an extra gift for using veggies! (let me know how it goes)
The main characters: crescent dough, cream cheese, spices (I used salt, oregano, and garlic powder), yellow squash, green bell pepper, red cherry tomatoes.
…and your favorite Christmas cookie cutters.
Step 1: Preheat oven to 350. Take cream cheese out of package so it can soften. Then unroll the crescent dough onto either a parchment or silpat lined baking sheet. If you don’t have either, just lightly spray sheet with a nonstick cooking spray.
Using your cookie cutters, start cutting the dough into Christmas shapes. Once you’ve cut the shape, don’t try to move it or the world will come to an end. Not really, but trust me, don’t move the cut out shape. Just peel the extra dough away and put it in file 13. You’ll figure that out soon.
Place in oven for 10-12 minutes and clean up any mess you made while they are baking. Then get your veggies ready to be chopped.
After about 10-12 minutes, they should look like this. Place them on a cooling rack and set aside while you chop the veggies.
Step 2: Chop up the veggies or have someone help you if your a wee little one. Be careful! This part is not a race, go slow and pay attention to your task.
Step 3: Add seasoning to the softened cream cheese and start gently spreading onto the baked shapes. It’s probably a good idea to get all the shapes covered with the cream cheese before going to the next step.
Step 4: The creative part! Start decorating with the veggies. This little tree was fun to make…I sang O Christmas Tree while making it. You could sing whatever you want, just as long as you sing loud and proud!
Here’s my wreath and stocking.
And my star and candy cane with my happy little tree…:)
Here they are all together… kind of cute, aren’t they? Really fun to make and eat!
I hope you make these and share them with your family.
Merry Christmas to you, little chef!
They look lovely!
